Beacon Charter Schools is governed by a passionate Board of Directors, strongly committed to upholding the mission and pursuing the vision of our schools.
Rich Paolo, Chair
Melinda Acosta, Vice Chair
Melinda Acosta was Manager of Family Services and Aquatics for 10 years at the Pawtucket YMCA. For the past fifteen years, she has been home taking care of her two boys. She is ambitious and dedicated to all her commitments. She joined the board in 2017 as a mom with one student at Beacon and another at Founders. She is well informed in special ed services and students and parents needs. Her Beacon son “loves loves loves” everything about Beacon and says the school was made for him. She wants to continue this school’s great accomplishments and improve anywhere that is needed. She has a passion for being part of her boys’ schools.
In her free time, she loves to watch her middle schooler play travel basketball and her high schooler perform. She loves to spend time with her family. She is part of the Happy Basket program which is run in Cumberland for Thanksgiving and Christmas to give holiday meals and gifts.
Amanda LaRose, Treasurer
Amanda LaRose joined the board in August 2016 and was voted Treasurer a year later. Currently she is the Branch Manager at Navigant Credit Union in Woonsocket, RI. She hopes to bring her energy and enthusiasm for helping kids grow and learn and succeed.
She joined the board to give back to the community and to help Beacon become a school that other charters and schools look to with admiration.
When she’s not working, she loves spending time with her daughter Charlotte and husband Jay. They love teaching their daughter new things and letting her help them with cooking and responsibilities around the house. They love to be a family and spend time playing outside as much as they can.
Laura Nottie, Secretary
Kristen Free joined the board in February 2017. She wanted to be a part of Beacon because of the students and she was drawn to the structure of the school. She is currently a Branch Manager at Navigant’s Chapel branch. She as always wanted to be a part of a vibrant school community. When she’s not working, Kristen loves being with her family and friends. She also enjoy working out and being outdoors.
